The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, and the Magistrate of the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judiciary of Mexico, José Luis Vargas, today signed a renewal of a collaboration agreement to continue advancing on electoral justice, gender parity and mechanisms of citizen participation, among other issues.

The OAS Secretary General said that the renewal of the agreement "is the mutual recognition of the beneficial relationship that our institutions have had in the past and that today, given the democratic challenges that the region is facing, is vital to maintain." Secretary General Almagro acknowledged the support of the Electoral Tribunal to the electoral observation program with the participation of specialists in electoral observation missions.

Magistrate José Luis Vargas said that "the responsibility of those who impart electoral justice is great, being the last instance in the defense of democracy, the balance that resolves the disagreement." Therefore, he stressed that collaboration with the OAS "will allow us to face this high responsibility and the challenges of a changing world in a more effective way."
