The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, met today with the Monaco Government Councilor for External Relations, José Badia, in his office in Washington, DC. During their meeting, the two talked about the issues of greatest importance on the regional agenda, among them human rights, public security, economic and social development, and the strengthening of institutions.

Secretary General Insulza emphasized that to the Organization’s observer countries, such as Monaco, the OAS is a forum to remain up to date on the development of events, debates and changes in the hemisphere. For his part, the representative of the European country shared his government’s wish to increase cooperation with the countries in the Americas, to learn more about the region and to channel some of its activities through the hemispheric organization.

Secretary General Insulza made available to the representative of Monaco the resources of the General Secretariat to assist his government in whatever ways may be possible. Monaco became an observer country of the OAS in September 2010.
