The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, participated today in an international seminar organized by the Vidanta Foundation, titled, "The Opportunity of the Bicentennial."

In the meeting, Secretary General Insulza was part of the panel, "South America 1910-2010: Lessons and Challenges," alongside former President of Uruguay Julio María Sanguinetti, former President of Colombia César Gaviria, and the Ibero-American Secretary General, Enrique Iglesias. In his presentation, the head of the OAS reviewed Chilean history of the last hundred years, describing the gradual development experienced by the South American country beginning with the vast poverty of the early 20th century until the progress achieved in recent decades.

Secretary General Insulza said there is still much to do, and highlighted the need to increase opportunities to open possibilities for development. He also highlighted the progress achieved in the last 20 years in the political sphere as much as in the economic and social ones. The panel was moderated by former President of Chile Ricardo Lagos.
