The Organization of American States (OAS) today held the Forum “Challenges and Opportunities of Migration Flows in the Western Hemisphere” at the headquarters of the hemispheric institution in Washington, DC.

The event included the participation of specialists on the issue such as the President of the U.S. organization Immigration Works, Tamar Jacoby; the Director of the Fundación Ciudadanía y Valores of Spain, José María Román; the researcher Rodofo Cruz Piñero, of the Colegio de la Frontera Norte of Mexico; Alfonso Aguilar, of the International Human Rights Group; and María Moreno, of the International Organization for Migration.

The participants debated the perspectives for an immigration reform in the United States, the positions of the political parties on the issue, and the demographic tendencies that could influence the issue in the future.

The forum was introduced by the Chair of the Committee on Migration Issues of the OAS, Olga Pérez Tuna. CNN journalist Juan Carlos López moderated the event.
