The Electoral Observation Mission of the Organization of American States (OAS/EOM) to today´s general elections in Guyana has deployed observers in all ten regions of the country.

Chief of Mission Lisa Shoman, designated to the position by OAS Secretary General José Miguel Insulza, and Deputy Chief, David Alvarez, visited polling stations in regions three and four and spoke to poll workers and police officers to gather their impressions on the electoral process.

This is the fifth time the OAS has observed elections in Guyana, following Missions in 1997, 2001, 2006 and 2011. The day after the election, the OAS/EOM will present its preliminary findings in a press conference and will subsequently present a report to the Permanent Council of the Organization in Washington, DC.
