OAS Secretary General Presented Report to the Group of Friends of Haiti on his Visit to Port-au-Prince

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, today presented a report on his recent visit to Port-au-Prince to the Group of Friends of Haiti of the Organization, in a meeting that took place at the headquarters of the hemispheric institution in Washington DC.

During the meeting, chaired by the Assistant Secretary General of the OAS, and Chair of the Group, Albert Ramdin, Secretary General Insulza presented details of his official visit last week to the Caribbean country, which included meetings with President Michel Martelly, Prime Minister Evans Paul, and Minister of Defense Lener Renauld, as well as legislators, members of the opposition and representatives of the private sector, among others.

In addition, the Permanent Representative of Haiti to the OAS, Bocchit Edmond, and representatives of other member states and observers, discussed the status of the democratic processes in Haiti, the importance of the presence of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) during the electoral processes of this year, and the details of the electoral calendar, among other issues.
