The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, met today with the Secretary General-elect, Luis Almagro, with whom he discussed the transition phase ending with the transfer of command, to be held on May 26.

Secretary General Insulza and Secretary General- elect Almagro, accompanied by his top advisers, discussed various aspects of the transition. Secretary General Insulza will end his second term as head of the Organization on May 25, and one day later the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay will assume the leadership of the OAS.

The two diplomats also discussed the Seventh Summit of the Americas, to be held on April 10 and 11 in Panama, and the regional political situation. The meeting took place at OAS headquarters in Washington, DC.
