OAS Secretary General Met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay and Candidate for Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, met today with the only current candidate to succeed him in office, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay, Luis Almagro, at the headquarters of the Organization in Washington, DC.

Secretary General Insulza and Foreign Minister Almagro discussed the regional political situation, the main issues of the hemispheric agenda, and the history, present and future of the Organization.

Also present at the meeting were the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay, Luis Porto; the Permanent Representative of Uruguay to the OAS, Hugo Cayrús; the Secretary General of the National Drug Board of Uruguay and former Permanent Representative of Uruguay to the OAS, Milton Romani; the Secretary for Legal Affairs of the OAS, Jean Michel Arrighi; and the Secretary for External Relations of the OAS, Alfonso Quiñonez.
