The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, met today with the President of the International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS), Mohammed Hanzab, with whom he discussed the details, preparations and invitations to the regional conference in the Americas on “Major Sporting Events: The Crossroads of Security and Socio-Economic Development,” an event organized by both institutions and that will be held on June 25 and 26, 2015 in Washington, DC.

At the meeting, Secretary General Insulza noted the importance of sports security to the countries of the region and the value of cooperation in this field in the international arena. The two agreed to highlight sports as a way to foster development, promote culture and friendship ties.

In this context, the June conference is intended to serve as a technical discussion forum for the exchange of information, experiences, ideas and innovative approaches to improve multisectoral cooperation and promote the positive impact of sports on security and socioeconomic levels of the participating countries.
