The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, met today with the Permanent Observer to the Organization of Estonia, Eerik Marmei, in his office in the headquarters of the multilateral institution in Washington, DC.

At the meeting, the European diplomat commented that Estonia is the country with the highest per capita number of start-ups in Europe, noting that in this context the issues of Internet freedom and cyber security are fundamental to their authorities. In this way, Ambassador Marmei recalled the Memorandum of Understanding signed in October between his country and the OAS, to promote the development of cybersecurity capabilities in the Americas.

For his part, Secretary General Insulza thanked the Ambassador for the support Estonia is giving in this matter through direct programs with some member states, and the contribution of shared experiences toward finding the best answers to the problems of cyber security, aimed at improving the lives of citizens.
