With a call to continue working in a spirit of unity and brotherhood on the challenges that the Organization of American States (OAS) will face over the next year, the Secretary General of the institution, José Miguel Insulza, opened the holiday season today with the Christmas tree lighting at the OAS headquarters in Washington, DC.

Accompanied by the Assistant Secretary General, Ambassador Albert Ramdin, the leader of the hemispheric Organization recalled that "challenges arise as the year goes by and we can never predict them, but what we can predict is that we will maintain an atmosphere of unity, brotherhood, respect and affection between us.”

Finally, Secretary General Insulza said that "the main thing is that this great forum of the Americas is a place where all can live together, in which we can all speak together and learn to feel affection between ourselves and to respect each other beyond our differences." The brief ceremony ended with carols sung by the choir of OAS officials.
