The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, today received Honduran Congressman Armando Bardales, President of the Central American Parliament (Parlacen), at his offices in the headquarters of the Organization in Washington, DC.

The Representative, recently elected to head the Central American Parliament during the 2014-2015 period, highlighted the large number of common goals of the two institutions, and told Secretary General Insulza about his interest in revitalizing working and cooperation agreements between the two. He also invited the OAS leader to attend a forthcoming plenary session of the institution, which meets in Guatemala. Moreover, he also asked the leader of the OAS to support the initiatives of Parlacen regarding the integration of the region, such as the construction of a Central American Railroad and the implementation of policies for the promotion of tourism.

Secretary General Insulza congratulated Congressman Bardales on his recent election and confirmed the willingness of the OAS to take part in the exchange of proposals that will give new impetus to the relationship with the entity that began more than 16 years ago.

The meeting was also attended by the Vice Presidents of the Central American Parliament Juan Pablo Plácido and Rafael Espada, and the Secretary for External Relations of the OAS, Ambassador Alfonso Quiñónez.
