OAS Secretary General Meets with Minister of Information  and Communications Technologies of Colombia

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, met today with the Minister of Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) of Colombia, Diego Molano, at the headquarters of the Organization in Washington, DC.

During the meeting Secretary General Insulza and Minister Molano talked about the importance of communication technologies as an instrument in regional plans to reduce poverty in the Hemisphere, as well as the work of the OAS in the coordination of public policies on the issue.

The head of the Organization also highlighted the importance of the upcoming Eighth Meeting of the Network of e-Government Leaders of Latin America and the Caribbean (Red Gealc), as well as the Third Ministerial Meeting on electronic government. to be held in Cartagena, Colombia, in December. For his part, Minister Molano stressed the "great work of the OAS on cybersecurity," and highlighted the work of the Inter-American Telecommunication Commission (CITEL).

Also present at the meeting was the Permanent Representative of Colombia to the Organization, Ambassador Andres Gonzalez.
