OAS Secretary General Met with Foreign Minister of Dominican Republic

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, today met with the Minister of Foreign Relations of the Dominican Republic, Carlos Morales Troncoso, on the eve of the XLIII Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Central American Integration System (SICA), which will begin tomorrow.

Secretary General Insulza and Foreign Minister Morales Troncoso discussed the regional political context and the programs of cooperation between the OAS and the Dominican Republic, among other issues.

The OAS leader travelled to the Dominican Republic to take part in the SICA Summit, which will be inaugurated Friday in Punta Cana. The leaders of the eight countries that make up SICA – Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, El Salvador, Costa Rica and Belize – are expected to take part in the meeting, along with delegations from the European Union and the United States as observers, among others.
