The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Business of Grenada, Nickolas Steele, spoke today in the context of the forty-fourth regular session of the General Assembly of that hemispheric organization, held in Asunción, Paraguay.

At their private meeting, the two officials discussed possibilities of broadening and strengthening Grenada's participation in the activities and policies of the regional body and the possibility of expanding cooperation through initiatives like the Special Multilateral Fund of the Inter-American Council for Integral Development (FEMCIDI), the purpose of which is to address the most pressing needs of the OAS member countries, especially the relatively less developed countries.

At the meeting, Secretary General Insulza reiterated the commitment of the institution he leads to promoting development and strengthening constitutional processes in the member states. As part of the bilateral meeting, Foreign Minister Steele extended an invitation to Secretary General Insulza to visit his country in the second half of this year.
