Secretary General Meets with the President-Elect of Paraguay

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, met today with the President-Elect of Paraguay, Horacio Cartes, in his private residence in Asunción.

During the meeting, the two discussed the current political and economic context in Paraguay and the region of Latin America and the Caribbean in general. They also talked about economic development perspectives that benefit the majority sectors of the country. In addition, the next OAS General Assembly, which will take place in 2014 in Paraguay, was a focus of the conversation.

President-Elect Cartes was accompanied by Ambassador Eladio Loizaga and Ambassador and former Foreign Minister Leila Rachid, who head his transition team. For his part, Secretary General Insulza was accompanied by the Permanent Representative of Paraguay to the OAS, Martin Sannemann, and the OAS representatives in Paraguay and Uruguay, Diego Paz and John Biehl, respectively.
