Mayor of Antigua, Guatemala, Gives OAS Officials Keys to the City

The Mayor of Antigua, Guatemala, Edgard Francisco Ruiz Paredes, today gave the keys to his city to the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, and to its Assistant Secretary General, Albert Ramdin, whom he also dubbed as Honored Guests.

At the event, during the closing day of the forty-third regular session of the OAS General Assembly, which took place in the Guatemalan city, Secretary General Insulza called the distinction “a great honor” and thanked Mayor Ruiz Paredes for the hospitality of its citizens. He noted the historical value to the Americas of the city of Antigua, Guatemala, which centuries ago was the country's capital. Secretary General Insulza also recalled his prior visits to Antigua, Guatemala, recognizing its historical and cultural wealth.

Mayor Ruiz Paredes delivered the keys during a luncheon, hosted by the foreign minister of Guatemala, Luis Fernando Correa, for the heads of delegation of the OAS member states.
