Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago Takes Part in Americas-Africa Business Forum at the OAS

The Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, today took part in the Americas-Africa Business Forum titled "New Commercial Partnerships for Economic Growth," organized by the Organization of American States (OAS) and the government of Trinidad and Tobago at the headquarters of the hemispheric institution in Washington, DC.

In her presentation, Persad-Bissessar discussed the possibilities for strengthening ties between Africa and the Americas to improve the quality of life of the people of both hemispheres. She highlighted the importance of "South-South" cooperation for her government, and emphasized the commercial opportunities that exist between the two regions. As an example, the Prime Minister stressed the possibilities for her country offered by cooperation in exports such as liquid natural gas (LNG).

Before the beginning of the Forum, the Secretary General of the OAS, José Miguel Insulza received the Prime Minister in a private meeting. The two discussed the current context in the hemisphere, and the possibilities of cooperation that could result from the event.

The forum includes the participation of officials, diplomats and entrepreneurs from the Americas and Africa, among them the Prime Minister of Haiti, Laurent Lamothe; the Prime Minister of Namibia, Hage Geingob, who participated via video message; the Minister of Finance of Egypt, Morsi El Sayed Hegazy; the Minister of Finance of Mozambique, Manuel Chang; and the Minister of Finance of Panama, Frank De Lima.
