OAS Secretary General Receives Deputy Minister of Ministry of Security Coordination of Ecuador

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, today received the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Security Coordination of Ecuador, Stalin Basantes Moreno, in his office in Washington, DC.

Secretary General Insulza spoke with Deputy Basantes Moreno on the issues of citizen security challenges in the hemisphere, progress in this area in Ecuador, the benefits of regional cooperation, and the importance of accurate data for formulating appropriate security policies.

Participants at the meeting included Jackson Villota of the Ministry of Security Coordination of Ecuador; Daniel Pontón, from the National Secretariat of Planning and Development (SENPLADES), José Rosero of the National Institute of Statistics and Census of Ecuador (INEC); the Permanent Representative of Ecuador to the OAS, Maria Isabel Salvador; and Alvaro Briones, Acting Director, Department of Public Security of the OAS.
