More than 100 participate in OAS Inter-American Teacher Education Network Webinar and the International Reading Asosiation
Some of the teachers from the remotest places in the Americas attended the three webinar series on innovations in teaching reading and writing.
The Inter-American Teacher Education Network (ITEN) webinar series titled “Innovative Literacy Teaching Techniques” held on July 13th, July 26th, 2012 and August 10th 2012, featured participation by more than 100 teachers and education leaders from the Americas. The presenters were Dr. Adelina Arellano Osuna, a literacy researcher at the University of Los Andes in Bogota, Colombia; Dr. Oscar J. Martínez Alaníz, English Professor as a foreign language at the Cervantes College CA, and Dr. Paul Boyd-Batstone, reading and writing Professor at the California State University, Long Beach.
ITEN launched its webinar series in June, 2011 and the 100 - participants record was reached on July 13. Mrs. Adriana Vilela, OAS Education Specialist states: “Webinars offer unique opportunity for teachers and education leaders in the Americas to acquire in depth knowledge of topics that are relevant for their careers and professional development. The webinars also allow them to interact with other participants that connect from different countries simultaneously. We are very enthusiastic about the significant participation of these teachers and leaders, who are the core of this network”.
Mrs. Kelly Dwyer , Director of the organization Teach a Teacher in Caraz, Ancash, Peru (www.teachateacher.org) mentions: “ (…)the twenty-one teachers in attendance were, for the most part, wowed and excited and many asked if they could invite others to the next one and there was much discussion and enthusiasm afterwards.”
