IACHR Announces Calendar of Public Hearings for 179th Period of Sessions

Washington, D.C.- The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) published the calendar of public hearings that will take place as part of the 179th Period of Sessions, which will be held online from March 15 to 26, 2021. The hearings will take place from March 16 to 25, 2020.

In addition to this, during the 179th Session, the IACHR will be held meetings with civil society to receive information on the human rights situation in the countries of the region. The meetings will be held simultaneously, virtually, on Friday, March 22, 2021, between 4:00 PM and las 6:00 PM (EST). Organizations interested in participating in these meetings must register through this form (spanish english) by March 12, 2021 at 11:59 PM (EST).

The IACHR is also inviting members of the Organization of American States to take part in meetings to deepen the regional dialogue, which will take place on March 17, 2021.
In accordance with the provisions of Article 68 of the IACHR Regulations, all hearings will be public, and will be broadcast on the Zoom platform and through the IACHR's Facebook account. Accredited individuals and organizations and who requiring interpretation must register for the corresponding hearings, a link to which can be found in the hearing calendar.

The IACHR will notify parties of sign-in procedures and security guidelines for the public hearings, working meetings and meetings with civil society that will be held as part of the 179th Period of Sessions.

A principal, autonomous body of the Organization of American States (OAS), the IACHR derives its mandate from the OAS Charter and the American Convention on Human Rights. The Inter-American Commission has a mandate to promote respect for and to defend human rights in the region and acts as a consultative body to the OAS in this area. The Commission is composed of seven independent members who are elected in an individual capacity by the OAS General Assembly and who do not represent their countries of origin or residence.
