Summit of the Americas: Special Rapporteur exposed on progress and challenges to freedom of expression in civil society event

 

The Special Rapporteur for Freedom of Expression of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, Edison Lanza, will participate on Thursday, April 9, at the ​​conference "Freedom of expression in the Americas: Progress and Challenges", which will take place during the Forum of Civil Society and Social Actors which will run parallel to the Seventh Summit of the Americas in Panama City.

 

The Rapporteur will give the initial speech in the conference, which will also feature comments from Santiago Canton, executive director of Robert F. Kennedy Partners for Human Rights, Frank La Rue, former Special Rapporteur of the United Nations for Freedom of Opinion and Expression, and Ricardo Lombana, lawyer specialized in freedom of expression and information and host of Eco360 Panama TV show, moderated by the executive director of Due Process of Law Foundation, Katya Salazar.

 

The event will take place in the Royal Sonesta lounge of Hotel Flamenco at 5.30, and it is sponsored by several organizations of civil society that work to promote and defend freedom of expression and the right to information, including Due Process of Law Foundation, Red Latinoamericana y del Caribe para la Democracia, Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights, Alianza Ciudadana Pro Justicia, Alianza Regional por la Libre Expresión e Información, Observacom, Freedom House, Transparency International and The Carter Center.
