Enabling
Investment and New Opportunities in Telecommunications |
By Jacquelynn Ruff, Verizon
Latin America has enjoyed strong economic growth over the last
five years, which is expected to continue, even if at a slower pace.
With increasing prosperity, the expanding middle class is
strengthening internal demand for goods and services. The
telecommunications industry has also benefited from this economic
expansion and has achieved significant growth in the mobile sector,
but wireline connections and broadband penetration lag those of the
Asia-Pacific region.

The
evolution of networks to the Quadruple play services |
By
Javier Camargo, Ericsson
The communication
networks are evolving quickly from the transmission of an analogue
signal to high speed digital transmissions.
The digital transmission of voice, video, multimedia and certainly
data has allowed that all these services may be offered by the same
communication network and if all these services are offered through
the mobile infrastructure, this is known as Quadruple play.

Across
the Divide |
By
Erica Whinston, Qualcomm
The numbers are in and according to a study from the research
group Informa, half the world, that is approximately 3.3 billion
people, have a mobile phone1. Moreover, 80 percent of the world,
approximately 5.3 billion people, live under a cellular network2, with
those networks increasingly becoming 3G. The question is no longer
whether or not those without a mobile phone will own one, but rather
when. And more interestingly, what will this phone look like on the
inside and out?
