Broadcasting, PCC.II will hold a Seminar on Terrestrial Spectrum
for International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT) on Monday, 16 April
2007, in San Salvador, El Salvador, the day before the IX meeting of
PCC.II. This seminar is being organized and sponsored by the Mobile
Industry Backing Terrestrial Spectrum for IMT, or mib for short

took the important step of adopting a Recommendation for use by member
states which provides guidance on how Global Mobile Personal

Medellín goes digital |
Medellín City Hall. UNE EPM Telecomunicaciones, Orbitel, the Ministry
of Communications, and the Ministry of Education, today launched
Medellín, Digital City: a digital development project geared to
education, enterprise, and government, which is expected to cost some
20 billion pesos. (Ministry of

Salvador: new Chief Superintendent of Electricity and
Telecommunications |
As of January 15, 2007, Mr.
Fernando Arguello Téllez, shall, by
appointment of the Constitutional President of the Republic, replace
Mr. Jorge Isidoro Nieto Menéndez as the new Chief Superintendent of
Electricity and Telecommunications of El Salvador.

Peru:
2,000% growth in broad band subscribers |
According to Edwin San Román, President of the Oversight Agency for
Private Investment in Telecommunications (Osiptel), over the past five
years the number of broadband Internet subscribers in Peru grew by
over 2,000 percent, from 20,375 in 2001 to 460,000 at end-2006.

Peru: US$600 million
investment plan for the telecommunications sector |
2006 was an important year for the Peruvian telecommunications market
and its coverage, above all in the provinces. Fixed telephony
penetration surpassed 9%, mobile telephony reached 30%, and broadband
services expanded to nearly 2%, said the General Manager of DN
Consultores, Carlos Huamán.

Brazil: Over 2.6 million new subscribers take the total number of cell
phones in service in Brazil to over 100 million |
2000% growth in Anatel’s first nine years: With 2.67 million new
subscribers, Brazil will have -- between end-2006 and early 2007, when
the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) completes its first
ten years – more than 100 million cell phones in active service.

Alcatel-Lucent
of Argentina became an associate member of
PCC.I.
Formed from the merger of Alcatel
and Lucent Technologies, Alcatel-Lucent combines two entities that
share a common lineage that can be traced back to 1986, when Alcatel’s
parent company, CGE (la Compagnie Générale d’Electricité), acquired
ITT’s European telecom business.
Alcatel-Lucent is organized
around five business groups and four geographic regions. The Wireless,
Wireline, Convergence groups, which make up the Carrier Business Group,
are dedicated to serving the needs of the world's service providers. The
Enterprise Business Group focuses on meeting the needs of business
customers. The Services Business Group designs, deploys, manages and
maintains networks worldwide. The company's geographic regions are
Europe and North, Europe and South, North America, and Asia-Pacific.

States: GSM Latin America |
On January 1, 2007, the
GSM Latin
America
of United States, became an associate member of PCC.I.
GSMLA is already an associate member of PCC.II since 2004.
GSM Latin America was created in 1998, since then
it has had the important job to promote and increase the GSM
technology use in the region among operators and end-users, as well as
to represent its members in front of other organizations related to
the industry.
