Preparation
for WRC-07 |
The IX meeting of the Permanent Consultative
Committee II, Radiocomunications including Broadcasting took place in San
Salvador, El Salvador, April 17 to 20 2007. This was the limit meeting
to prepare for WRC-07. On May 7, 2007 the CITEL Secretariat will be
sending the documents that are the result of the meeting and that
include several inter-american proposals on several Agenda items.
Administrations can send new draft proposals for the WRC-07, to be
considered at the X meeting of PCC.II, before midnight of Saturday
June 16, 2007 (EST, Washington DC,
United States of America).
The X meeting of PCC.II will take place from July 30
to August 2, 2007 in Orlando, Florida, United States of America.

1926 when the Eng. Frank Hatton Guerrero as President
of the Radio Club in
Santo Domingo, built a small AM transmitter of few
watts to transmit the first broadcasting

Brazil:
Mobile Telephony Grows by 2.2% in First Quarter |
With in excess of 965,000 new activations,
over 102 million cell phones are now in service.
With 965,726 new mobile service activations for the month,
102,152,437 cell phones were in service in Brazil in March. Of these,
82,166,834 (80.44%) were pre-paid and 19,985,603 (19.6%) post-paid.

Chile:
Government Introduces a Bill to Authorize Municipalities to
Regulate Telecommunication Tower Installation |
Seeking to harmonize Chile’s
telecommunication industry development and connectivity with the
greater urban environment, the Government has introduced in the
Chamber of Deputies a bill to regulate the urban impact of the
installation of mobile telephony, radio, and/or televisions towers.

Peru:
Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC) Publishes a Bill
to Add Additional Digits to Mobile Telephony Numbering |
Owing to the steep rise nationwide in the
number of mobile telephony lines and ongoing demand (57% higher in
2006 than in 2005), the MTC has issued a provision for a digit to be
added to cellular telephony numbering for Lima and Callao users, and
for two additional digits for numbering for users in the rest of the

Colombia:
Ministry of Communications: Territorial E-Government, a Pilot
Project for Latin America |
Ms.
María del Rosario Guerra de la Espriella, Minister of Communications,
underscored the outcome of the Territorial E-Government strategy under
which, thus far, 620 websites have been provided to the same number of
Colombian municipalities, and noted that the project promoted by the
Agenda for Connectivity may be considered a pilot project for Latin

Brazil:
Public Consultation Launched on an Invitation to Tender for SMP
Licenses |
April 5
saw the relaunch of Public Consultation No. 756, on the proposed
invitation to tender for licenses for use for Personal Mobile Service
(SMP) of radiofrequencies in D and E subbands, the new radiofrequency
subbands recently allocated to SMP, and the extended radiofrequency subbands. The proposed bid would enable the Agency [ANATEL] to issue
licenses for nationwide service provision and current operators to
