World Telecommunication Development Conference-2006

According to Resolution 1228 of ITU Council 2004, the International Telecommunication Union organizes in 2005, Six Preparatory Meetings for the World Telecommunication Development Conference-06 that will be held in Doha, Qatar, from 7 to 15 March 2006.

Those Preparatory Meetings on Regionla initiatives and ICT projects, are organized respectively in Bucharest, Romania(18-20 April), Alghiers, Algeria(16-18 May), Hanoi, Vietnam(8-10 June), Abuja, Nigeria(5-7 July), Lima, Peru(9-11 August) and Moscow, Russian Federation(11-13 October).

All ITU Member States, Sector Members and Regional/International organizations are invited to participate in the meetings of their respective geographies. They are encouraged to send their ICT/Telecom projects and contributions to ITU/Telecommunication Development Bureau at their earliest convenience.

Regarding the Preparatory Meeting for the Americas Region, which will be held in Lima, Peru, from 9 to 11 August 2005, the contributions can be sent directly to the following email address: [email protected].

The objective of these meetings is to adopt appropriate development strategies at regional and subregional level. These will be based on initiatives and projects on one hand, and on questions and topics related to them on the other.

This last point is essential to ensuring the success of the WTDC. It will facilitate conversion of the action plan adopted at the conference into a rolling operational plan covering an entire four-year development cycle.

In this regard, Member States will be able to make any relevant proposals on the contribution expected from the ITU Regional Office in implementing the projects and initiatives.
