The Third Summit of the Americas (Quebec City, 2001) requested the
“ministries or departments responsible for telecommunications and
appropriate regulatory bodies to cooperate, within CITEL, in order to
clarify and simplify rules governing the provision of satellite
services in our countries” and to promote “the modernization and
expansion of telecommunications infrastructure in rural and urban
areas through timely introduction of new technologies and services, in
particular broadband technologies.”

PCC.II Meeting in Buenos Aires, Argentina, December 6 – 9, 2004,
Decision PCC.II/DEC 25
(IV-04) was taken to have the CITEL Secretariat request that
Member States and associate members answer the ITU-R WP 8F
Questionnaire on possible terrestrial candidate frequency bands for
the future development of IMT-2000 and systems beyond IMT-2000, and
send a copy of their answer to the CITEL Secretariat and to the
Rapporteur for this activity.

Resolution No. 391 was published
approving regulations for the use of the frequency band 1452-1472 MHz,
and the band 1452-1492 MHz was allocated to the mobile service, on a
primary basis, in Brazil. (ANATEL, 28 January 2005)

Venezuela:
CONATEL registration of 221 user organizations |
The National Telecommunications Commission, CONATEL, announced that it
had registered 221 telecommunication service user organizations,
including radio and television, during the national workshop held in
all of Venezuela’s states from Tuesday, January 25, to Thursday,
February 3.

Ninth Telecommunications Policy Seminar and World Telecommunications
Day Symposium |
The Government of Jamaica and the Caribbean
Telecommunications Union (CTU) announces the 9th Telecommunications
Policy Seminar scheduled to take place in Jamaica from 5 to 6 April
2005. Also, CTU participates of the inaugural World Telecommunications
Day Symposium which will be hosted in Port of Spain, Trinidad and
Tobago from 16 to 18 May, 2005.
