Main objective
Strengthen political and administrative commitment to the adoption and implementation of special measures –including quota laws– that support women’s political representation.
Brief description
The project includes an analysis of the implementation of existing quota laws in the Americas, including the identification of good practices and lessons learned based on current experience.
This analysis served as the main input for a sub-regional level debate on the implementation of quota laws in the Andean region, including a look at what have been the main challenges to the successful implementation of quota laws and other measures, and how can these can be strengthened.
The project concluded with an international seminar (May 6th and 7th 2010, Lima) on the implementation of quota laws and other special measures in the Americas. The seminar identified key policy and programmatic priorities to support women’s effective political representation and their incidence in policy and decision-making processes at all levels (national, provincial, local) and in all spheres (national legislatures, political parties, etc.).
