3. DELEGATIONS

Delegations will be comprised of 6 delegates who will be distributed into 3 Committees (2 delegates (Head and Alternate) per Committee). Upon registration schools must indicate their committee assignments for each delegate, the number of delegations, and upload all other requested information.

Faculty Advisors select the students that will comprise the delegation/s, with enough time in advance to allow proper preparation for the Model.  Students enrolled in academic areas related to Inter-American Affairs, Political Science, History or similar and those who may benefit from participating in the MOAS are usually selected by their school authorities/Faculty Advisors.

Each delegate must complete a position paper and general statement. For more information, please see click on the PREPARE tab.

High schools will be informed of their assigned country as soon as the registration form is submitted by the faculty advisor and the corresponding registration fees are received.

Schools are also asked to designate 1 student to serve as Committee Secretary.  Students will be chosen on a ‘first come, first serve basis’. This role is also separate from the 6 delegates participating in the Committee negotiations. The name of the student or an indication of interest should be included in the online registration form.

Country Assignment:
As soon as the registration information and registration fee are received, the MOAS Coordinator will inform high school authorities/faculty advisors of their respective country assignments.  Each of the 33 OAS Member States is represented by a delegation of 6 students.  Countries are assigned by the MOAS Coordinator in a geographical rotational manner; therefore, if a school/university represented a South American country one year, the next year it will represent a Caribbean, Central American or North American country.

Code of Conduct:
The Model OAS General Assembly (MOAS) seeks to promote a strong sense of scholarship and leadership, as well as a commitment to the principles of honesty, fairness, respect and accountability. Participants shall commit to uphold these principles in all MOAS activities, and to promote a culture of integrity and respect for diversity.  The MOAS Code of Conduct must be signed by both the advisor(s) and the students. It is included in the online registration form. It must be printed, signed and uploaded with the registration form.
