CICTE Executive Secretary

Neil Klopfenstein assumed the position of  the Executive Secretary for the Inter-American Committee against Terrorism (CICTE) on August 15, 2012. A career member of the U.S. Senior Foreign Service, Mr. Klopfenstein is currently seconded by the State Department to the international staff of the Organization of American States.

In his 25 year career, Klopfenstein has served as the Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in Iceland, as well as in assignments to U.S. missions in Oslo, Sao Paulo, Recife and Bangkok.

In Washington, Klopfenstein served in the State Department Bureau of Public Affairs as Director of the Washington and New York Foreign Press Centers. He has also held positions in the State Department’s Bureaus of Western Hemisphere Affairs and International Information Programs.

Klopfenstein holds a Masters degree in National Security Strategy from the National War College, a Masters in City Planning from M.I.T., and a B.S. in Urban Planning and International Studies from Iowa State University. He grew up on a farm in southeast Iowa.
