Christopher Hernández-Roy

Director, Department of Public Security, Secretariat for Multidimensional Security

Christopher Hernández-Roy, a Canadian and Spanish citizen, is the Director of the Department of Public Security and is responsible for the Organization's programs to combat transnational organized crime and gangs, fight the trafficking of human beings, prevent the proliferation and trafficking in arms and explosives, and for humanitarian de-mining in the hemisphere. Mr. Hernández-Roy has worked at the OAS since 1995 and has served in various capacities including six years as a policy advisor to the Secretary General and to the Assistant Secretary General.

Mr. Hernández-Roy was formerly the Coordinator of the OAS' Fund for Peace and was intimately involved in the OAS's efforts at peacefully resolving border disputes between Honduras and Nicaragua; Belize and Guatemala; and Honduras and El Salvador.

He has served as a Principal Specialist in the Summit of the Americas Secretariat, as an Electoral Observation Officer, and as the head of a number of civilian verification missions in Central America. Mr. Hernández-Roy also worked for a short time with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

He holds a BA Honours degree from Carleton University (Ottawa, Canada) and an M. Phil. degree in international relations from the University of Cambridge, England. Mr. Hernandez-Roy is married to Alysia Wilson and has two children, Lucas and Isabel.
