Dialogue between Heads of Delegation and Workers Representatives from Member States

This dialogue responds to Resolution AG/RES. 2315 (XXXVII-O/07), “Participation of Workers’ Representatives in Activities of the Organization of American States”, which invites the workers’ representatives to hold a dialogue with the ministers of foreign affairs, prior to the inaugural sessions of the OAS General Assembly and the Summits of the Americas, so that said representatives may make recommendations and proposals for initiatives related to the theme of the General Assembly or the Summits of the Americas. This year, workers representatives will take the floor to share their perspectives on “Peace, Security and Cooperation in the Americas”. On June 5, they will hold an informal preparatory meeting to finalize the messages and proposals they will convey during the dialogue.

Lima, Peru will be the host of the Finals the fourth Talent and Innovation Competition of the Americas, an international business competition and accelerator for young entrepreneurs up to age 35. This competition allows young people to incorporate their businesses into the real market. TIC Americas goes beyond traditional business plan competitions by incorporating extensive training, mentoring, access to entrepreneurial resources and other opportunities that young entrepreneurs need to make their businesses grow in the national and international marketplace. TIC Americas is a program of the Young Americas Business Trust (YABT).

28th Model OAS General Assembly for Universities of the Hemisphere (28th MOAS)

XXVIII MOEA Lima - Perú The 28th MOAS for Universities of the Hemisphere is organized jointly by the Department of International Affairs of the Secretariat for External Relations of the OAS, and the Law School at Universidad de San Martin de Porres (USMP) in Lima, with complementary financial support from the Government of Spain. The MOAS Program is designed to promote democratic values among the youth of the Hemisphere through a role-playing exercise, where students represent each of the OAS Member States. In addition, this MOAS seeks to familiarize the youth and general population of Perú, as well as the youth of the Americas, with the priorities in the inter-American agenda in anticipation to the celebration of the 40th Regular Period of Sessions of the General Assembly of the OAS, to be held in Lima in June 2010.

The 28th MOAS will bring together 400 students from 43 universities from: Argentina, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Francia, Guyana, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, United States, and Venezuela, who will represent the 33 OAS Member countries and 4 Permanent Observers. This Model will be conducted in Spanish. Prior to their participation the students have to learn about the OAS, the countries they will represent and those countries’ policies in relation to the following topics on the MOAS Agenda: application of the Inter-American Democratic Charter to prevent political crises; participation of women in decision-making processes at the political, social and economic levels; follow-up and transparency in arms acquisition; civil society participation in the design of public policies on environmental law and sustainable development to strengthen governability; and, new methodologies to promote payment and increase financial allocations to the OAS. The students will also issue their own Declaration, based on the theme of the 40th OAS General Assembly: Peace, Security and Cooperation in the Americas, which will be presented by the MOAS President to the Chiefs of Delegation during the OAS General Assembly in June.
