• The Prevention of Trafficking in Persons Act" (Act No. 27 of2011)

Public Policies and National Programs

Assistance and Protection of Victims of Trafficking Section (20) (1) (a) to (e) states:

• The victim shall be given the appropriate protection to prevent recapture and to secure victim from threats, reprisals, and intimidation by the traffickers and their associates.
• Appropriate measures of protection shall be taken to secure the victim's family from threats, reprisals, or intimidation from the traffickers and their associates if the victim's family resides in St. Vincent and the Grenadines
  
• Appropriate measures of protection shall be taken to secure any organization or entity providing assistance or support to the victim from threats, reprisals or intimidation by the traffickers and their associates and;
• The victim shall be given the opportunity to consult with a victim's advocate or other appropriate person to develop a safety plan.
• Victims whether or not witnesses or potential witnesses may be eligible for applicable witness relocation and protection programs for victims of organized criminal activity or other serious offences if it is determined that an offence involving a crime of violence directed at the victim is likely to be committed The program may include- relocation; new identity documents establishing identity; new resident; work permit or protection of confidentiality of identity and location ". Other public policies includes:
  • National Sensitization and Public Education Programs on Trafficking in Persons
  • On- going Training of Government officials and Non-Governmental officials on issues of Trafficking in Persons
  • Establishment of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Unit (ATIPU)
  • Establishment of the "Crisis Center for Women

Immigration Regulations

• According to section (1) (a) of the Prevention of Trafficking in Persons Act "oil steps necessary to identify the victim shall be taken". Once a victim is identified, the competent authority may provide the victim and accompanying dependent children with appropriate visas or other required authorization to permit them to remain and work in St. Vincent and the Grenadines for the duration of the criminal prosecution of the traffickers.
• A victim's spouse and children, and in the case of child victims, the parents or guardian and the victim's siblings may be eligible to join the victim in St. Vincent and the Grenadines as parí of the victim's application for residency.
• Other Immigration regulations relative to the identification of victims are currently being developed.
