Seminar "Strengthening National and Regional Capacities for the Prevention and Combat of Trafficking in Persons in Central America"
San Jose, Costa Rica - 10-11 February 2009

The United Nations Office against Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in collaboration with the Latin-American Institute of the United Nations for the Prevention of Crime and Rehabilitation (ILANUD) organized the Seminar which gathered hemispheric bodies responsible of the combat against trafficking in persons, amongst which the DPS, with the objective to complement and enrich the work done by the different international agencies as a means to optimize the resources and prevent overlapping actions in the fight against trafficking in persons.  During this event the document "Diagnostic of the National and Regional Capacities for the Penal Prosecution of the Crime of Trafficking in Persons in Central America" was presented. 

Conference on the Terms of Understanding for the Promotion of the Formalized Cooperation with the Security Authorities and the Decision-Making Actors against Organized Crime
Vienna, Austria - 30 March 2009

In support to the Worldwide Initiative of the United Nations to Combat Trafficking in Persons, the International Organization for Migrations (IOM-Austria) organized the Conference on the Terms of Understanding for the Promotion of the Formalized Cooperation between the Security Authorities and the Decision-Making Actors against Trafficking in Persons. The event sought to promote the formalization of the multi-disciplinary and multi-agency cooperation between the international, regional and national security agencies and the civil society sector.  During the conference, the DPS presented an investigation on the "Regional Practices and Mechanisms of Hemispheric Cooperation to Prevent and Combat Trafficking in Persons". 
 

Meeting of Experts on the Plan of Action for the Effective Implementation of the Palermo Protocol
Vienna, Austria - 21 April 2009


With the purpose of supporting the implementation of the Protocol to Prevent, Prevent and Sanction Trafficking in Perons, especially in Women and Children (Palermo Protocol), the United Nations against Drugs and Crime (UNODC) organized the Meeting of Experts to analyze and discuss the Plan of Action for the Effective Implementation of the Palermo Protocol, an instrument with useful guidelines which can be used by Member States and as a toolguide to prevent and combat trafficking in persons from a comprehensive approach.  This meeting gathered representatives from the European civil society sector, organizations of the UN System and the OAS.
