OAS - Department of Public Security - Organized Crime

In the era of globalization, the breach in national borders, the reduction of commercial and financial barriers and the modernization of the telecommunications have facilitated the spreading of organized crime at the transnational level.  As a result of its geography, a growing culture of corruption and the difficulty to keep up with technological change, Latin America and the Caribbean have become extremely vulnerable to all sorts of illegal activities.

The objective of the Section against Transnational Organized Crime (TOC) is to provide technical and legal assistance to the OAS Member States in their attempt to fight organized crime and its manifestations.  The Section thus seeks to promote training programs on this topic and enhance cooperation between Member States in order to strengthen the regional fight against TOC.
