The improvement of public security in the Americas
relies, to a great extent, on the consolidation of police institutions.
Against this background, the DPS has launched the Inter-American Police
Training Program (PICAP) as one of its central priorities. This
program seeks to promote tools for the control and prevention of crime
and violence through the transfer of experiences, the exchange of
information and the analysis of the political action led by the OAS Member
States.
Hence
PICAP seeks
to promote the training of the police; to develop a model-curriculum for
the modernization of police education; to organize training modules in
order to facilitate the exchange of information between the National
Police Academies as a way to foster the exchange of experiences and
mutual cooperation in this area.
