El Secretario de Seguridad Multidimensional (SSM) de la OEA, Adam Blackwell, visitó Brasil entre el 12 y el 14 de septiembre donde se entrevistó con autoridades del Gobierno Federal en Brasilia y Río de Janeiro. El representante de la OEA ofreció la asistencia técnica de la Organización para colaborar con Brasil en aspectos relacionados con la seguridad en general y con la organización del Mundial de fútbol 2014 y los Juegos Olímpicos de 2016.

El Secretario Ejecutivo Adjunto de la Comisión Interamericana para el Control del Abuso de Drogas (CICAD), Rafael Franzini, analizó el aumento del consumo de las drogas sintéticas en la región, sus peligros para la salud y las respuestas que deben de dar las autoridades para enfrentar el uso y abuso de estos estupefacientes que pueden ser producidos en cualquier país y que según el último informe de Naciones Unidas sobre drogas, cada día cuentan con un número mayor de consumidores.

La OEA y el Consejo Nacional de Drogas de Trinidad y Tobago co-organizaron la cuarta reunión bianual de los Observatorios de Drogas del Caribe, entre el 13 y el 16 de septiembre, en Puerto España, donde la Comisión Interamericana para el Control del Abuso de Drogas (CICAD) presentó un estudio comparativo del uso de drogas entre adolescentes de doce países del Caribe anglófono.

Los alumnos de la Clase 51 del Colegio Interamericano de Defensa (CID) visitaron los días 14 y 15 de septiembre la sede de la OEA, donde fueron recibidos por autoridades de la Organización, quienes realizaron presentaciones sobre el funcionamiento del Sistema Interamericano.

On September 12 and 14, 2011 the OAS Secretary for Multidimensional Security (SMS) Adam Blackwell, visited Brazil where he met with officials from the Brazilian Federal Government in Brasilia and Rio de Janeiro. While in Brazil, the OAS representative offered technical assistance and cooperation in all aspects related to the security and planning for the upcoming 2014 Soccer World Cup and 2016 Olympic Games.

Rafael Luis Franzini, the Deputy Secretary of the OAS Inter-American Drug Control Commission (CICAD) discussed the increased consumption of synthetic drugs in the region, the health hazards that it poses, and the suggestions we can give to the authorities on how to confront the use and abuse of these narcotics that can be produced in any country and, according to the most recently released publication by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, whose consumption is on the rise.

Examine Trends in Drug Use

On September 13 to 16, 2011 the National Drug Council of Trinidad and Tobago and the OAS co-organized the fourth bi-annual meeting of the Caribbean Observatory on Drugs in Puerto España. The Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD) presented a comparative study about drug-use in youth in twelve Caribbean nations.

Inter-American Defense College visits the OAS

On September 14 and 15, 2011 students from Class 51 of the Inter-American Defense College (IADC) visited the OAS. The delegation was welcomed by representatives from various parts of the OAS. Students attended presentations and discussions where they learned about the Inter-American System, its work and functionalities.

"The Inter-American Defense College is a fundamental seed of the Inter-American System, the training and education of military forces in our region fundamental when it comes to the education of future military leaders and the respect for democracy, human rights, and liberty" said Abraham Stein, Director of the Department of Defense and Hemispheric Security Department at the OAS.
