OAS Presents Security Assessment in El Salvador
ON NOVEMBER 1, 2011, THE SECRETARY GENERAL OF THE ORGANIZATION of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, presented an assessment of the National System of Citizen Security to the Salvadorian government. Insulza met with members of the security cabinet, led by Franzi Hato Hasbún, the Secretary for Strategic Affairs, and presented the document "An Assessment of the National System of Citizen Security in El Salvador". This assessment was prepared by the OAS Secretariat for Multidimensional Security.

Chile Hosted Bioterrorist Attack Drill
EXPERTS FROM 23 LOCAL AND 3 INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS participated in a bioterrorist attack drill simulating the spread of the deadly pneumonic plague in Chile. The OAS through its Inter-American Committee Against Terrorism (CICTE) coordinated the drill. The main objective of the exercise was to endure a three-day bioterrorist emergency in Chile, a country with an important flow of international flights.

CICAD Assembles in Buenos Aires

Trinidad and Tobago will open
its first Drug Treatment Court
CHIEF JUSTICE IVOR ARCHIE of Trinidad and Tobago announced the opening of its first drug treatment court. According to John Sandy, Minister of National Security, T&T needs to find different and innovative alternatives to improve citizen security in the country. As a multi-disciplinary practice, marrying prevention policies, treatment and justice, drug courts have proven an effective intervention for drug dependent offenders, as an alternative to incarceration.

OAS Getting Ready for 3rd Meeting
of Ministers on Public Security
THE MEMBER STATES of the OAS decided to adopt a working format for the next Ministerial Meeting on Public Security, in Trinidad and Tobago (November 17-18, 2011) that would focus on the dialogue, through the exchange of experiences and lessons learned. This is intended to facilitate the active participation of high-level officials in discussions on topics set out in the draft agenda.
