OAS Organism against Drugs reports on the Situation Facing the Hemisphere

A GROUP OF EXPERTS from the OAS Multilateral Evaluation Mechanism (MEM) - which generates recommendations to the Member States regarding how to control the traffic and abuse of drugs - met at OAS headquarters from the 16th to the 20th of April. Based on these experts’ recommendations, the OAS Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD) will present to its member States an evaluation on the current state of drug supply and demand in the hemisphere. This will be held during the 51st Regular Session, 9th - 11th of May, at the OAS headquarters.

Countries initiate a dialogue regarding
the global epidemic of drugs

THE PRESIDENT OF COLOMBIA, Juan Manuel Santos, stated during the 6th Hemispheric Summit in Cartagena: “The hemisphere’s Heads of State began a valuable dialogue on the global epidemic of drugs. We have come together on the need to analyze the results from current policies in the Americas and to explore new avenues to reinforce this battle and to achieve greater effectiveness.” The Colombian President remarked that such a mandate - to analyze the results from current public policies on drugs - was given to the OAS.
