OEA impulsa orquestra en cárcel de menores

JÓVENES INTERNAS –algunas de las cuales pertenecieron a pandillas–  forman parte de la primera Orquesta Sinfónica Juvenil Femenina del Instituto Salvadoreño de Desarrollo Integral de la Niñez y Adolescencia. La Orquesta surgió en septiembre de 2012 como parte del programa de prevención del delito y la violencia de la OEA. Según Edwin García de la Fundación Batuta de Colombia: “En la orquesta, ellas descansan de esa armadura de peso de todos los días, de ser enemigas, y creo que eso las alivia.”

Mariano Vales, especialista de la OEA, explica que este proyecto se enmarca en el esfuerzo de tregua entre las pandillas impulsado por la Organización. “Tenemos la esperanza de que el modelo de colaboración entre las pandillas, gobierno y la sociedad civil pueda ser replicado hacia otros centros de detención, así como también hacia fuera de las cárceles.”

OEA impartió taller en marcaje de armas de fuego en El salvador

EN EL MARCO DEL PROYECTO “Promoviendo el Marcaje de Armas de Fuego en América Latina y el Caribe”, la OEA, a través de su Programa de Asistencia para el Control de Armas y Destrucción de Municiones (PACAM), realizó los días 19 y 20 de marzo un taller de capacitación en el manejo de máquinas de marcaje de armas de fuego a miembros del Ministerio de la Defensa de El Salvador.

Culminan capacitaciones en atención pre-hospitalaria para las víctimas de minas en Ecuador

EL PROGRAMA DE ACCIÓN INTEGRAL CONTRA LAS MINAS ANTIPERSONAL (AICMA) de la OEA concluyó la tercera jornada de capacitaciones en Atención Pre-hospitalaria al Traumatizado para las Labores de Desminado Humanitario en Ecuador, coordinadas por el Departamento de Acreditación Médica del Comando General del Ejército.

OAS launches orchestra in correctional institution for minors

YOUTH IMPRISONED –some of which belonged to gangs- came together in the First Women’s Youth Orchestra of the Salvadorian Institute for Integral Development of Children and Adolescents. The Orchestra was formed in September 2012 as part of the OAS crime and violence prevention program. According to Edwin Garcia of the Batuta National Foundation of Colombia “In the orchestra, they take a break from the burden of being enemies, and I believe this relieves them.”

Mariano Vales, specialist of the OAS, explains that this project fits into the framework of the truce between gangs promoted by the Organization. “We hope the model of collaboration between gangs, government and civil society can be replicated in other detention centers, as well as outside of the penitentiary institutions.”

OAS delivers workshop in firearms marking in El Salvador

WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE PROJECT “Promoting Firearms Marking in Latin America and the Caribbean”, the OAS, through its Program of Assistance for Control of Arms and Munitions (PACAM), carried out on March 19 & 20 a capacity building workshop in the management of firearms marking equipment to members of the Ministry of Defense of El Salvador.

Completion of capacity building in pre-hospital attention for victims of antipersonnel mines in Ecuador

THE PROGRAM FOR Comprehensive Action against Antipersonnel Mines (AICMA) of the OAS concluded the third workshop in capacity building for pre-hospital attention to the traumatized by activities of humanitarian demining in Ecuador, coordinated by the Department of Medical Certification of the Armed Forces.
