OAS has destroyed 23,000 firearms and 1,600 tons of ammunition
Since 2006, through the Program of Assistance for Control of Arms and Munitions (PACAM), the OAS has destroyed more than 23,000 firearms and more than 1,600 tons of ammunition in Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala and Peru.

OAS Member Countries have marked more than 250,000 firearms
OAS Member States have registered the marking of more than 250,000 firearms, since September 2009, within the Framework of the project "Promoting Firearms Marking in Latin America and the Caribbean".

The OAS contributes to the eradication of Illicit Trafficking in Firearms
The countries of the Americas, aware of the urgent need to put a stop to the illicit trafficking of firearms, adopted the Inter-American Convention against the Illicit Manufacturing and Trafficking in Firearms, Ammunition, Explosives and Other Related Materials (CIFTA), to:
- expand international cooperation in the fight against the illicit trafficking of firearms
- strengthen international systems for identification and tracing of firearms
- mark all weapons at the time of their fabrication
- adopt legislative measures to typify the illicit trafficking of firearms as a crime
- disseminate information about producers, manufacturers, importers, exporters and transporters of firearms
