de bienes de origen criminal

ESPECIALISTAS EN SEGURIDAD de Europa y América estuvieron reunidos en el Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores de Francia, del 26 a 28 de marzo, dedicados a planear la acción multilateral relativa al decomiso de bienes de origen criminal. "Hoy, en la región americana, se ha promovido la identificación, localización y recuperación de los activos ilícitamente adquiridos, a través de la figura del decomiso que, en nuestra opinión, desincentiva la actividad criminal al mismo tiempo que golpea la estructura financiera de los grupos criminales", afirmó Adam Blackwell, Secretario de Seguridad Multidimensional de la OEA, en el Seminario sobre activos criminales Europa-América.

Primer Informe Regional sobre
Consumo de Drogas

LA OEA PRESENTÓ su Primer Informe Regional sobre Consumo de Drogas en las Américas que comprende un análisis del período 2002 y 2009. En la ocasión Francisco Cumsille, del Observatorio de Drogas de la OEA, sostuvo que “el consumo de cocaína se ha generalizado en casi toda América Latina y el Caribe”. Los datos del Observatorio sirven para medir las tendencias sobre la oferta y demanda de drogas en el Hemisferio. Según Paul Simons, Secretario Ejecutivo de la CICAD/OEA : “Sin información científica es imposible crear buenas políticas públicas”.

Brasil, El Salvador y México reciben visita de Mecanismo Anticorrupción

BRASIL, EL SALVADOR y MÉXICO recibieron recientemente la visita de especialistas del Mecanismo Anticorrupción de la OEA (MESICIC). Esta visita es parte del proceso de preparación de informes por país que el Comité de Expertos del MESICIC adoptará en su próxima reunión plenaria que se llevará a cabo en septiembre de 2012.

OAS supports Seizure of Assets of Criminals

SECURITY EXPERTS from Europe and America met in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France, from 26-28 March, to prepare a multilateral response to the issue of criminal assets. "Today, in the Americas, we are promoting the identification, location and recovery of illicitly acquired assets. The seizure, in our view, discourages criminal activity while hitting the financial structure of criminal groups" said Adam Blackwell, Secretary for Multidimensional Security of the OAS, at the meeting.

First Regional Report on Drug Use

THE OAS RELEASED its 1st Report on Drug Use in the Americas, a comparative analysis of drug trends in OAS member States, covering the period of 2002-2009. In this occasion, Francisco Cumsille, from the OAS Observatory on Drugs, held that "cocaine use is widespread throughout Latin America and the Caribbean." Observatory’s data are used to measure trends on the supply and demand for drugs in the Hemisphere. According to Paul Simons, Executive Secretary of the OAS Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD): "Without scientific information, it is impossible to create good public policies to confront the problem successfully.”

Visit of Anticorruption Mechanism

BRAZIL, EL SALVADOR AND MEXICO were visited, recently, by a delegation of the OAS Anticorruption Mechanism (MESICIC). The results of these visits will contribute to a country report to be presented at the MESICIC next plenary meeting, in September 2012.
