02. Violent Crimes: Sexual Offenses
12. Sexual Offences against children (rate)
RATE of "Sexual Offences against children", at the national level.
"SEXUAL OFFENSES AGAINST CHILDREN" means "Crimes of a sexual nature committed against children [according to the age defined by each country in the correspondent United Nations Survey on Crime Trends and Operations of Criminal Justice Systems (UN-CTS) Metadata section]. These crimes should include child pornography, procuring a child for prostitution, statutory rape of a person below the age of consent and other offences related to the sexual exploitation of children".
RATES are calculated per 100,000 children. Some countries with less than 100,000 children have their rates presented for comparison purpose.

Note: Any cross-national comparison should be conducted with caution because of the differences that exist between the legal definitions of both "children" and offences in countries, the different methods of offence counting and recording and differences in the share of criminal offences that are not reported to or detected by law enforcement authorities.
