OAS Hemispheric Observatory presents Citizen Security Statistics for the Americas

Alertamerica.org: The OAS Hemispheric Citizen Security Observatory is constantly updating and publishing information for all the countries in the hemisphere. The Observatory presents official information disclosed by the States, assembled into indicators that cover all social phenomena of crime and violence, as well as the initiatives developed to control and penalize them. These indicators constitute the most extensive repertoire of official information on citizen security in the hemisphere.

The information for the 2000-2012 period includes data of Intentional Homicides, Firearms, Non-lethal Violent Crimes, Demand and Drug Consumption, Prison Systems, Security Personnel and Victimization Surveys.

Latin America and the Caribbean in action to reduce homicides

According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime's Global Study on Homicide, of the 437,000 people who lost their lives to intentional homicide across the world in 2012, 36 per cent were concentrated in the Americas, 31 per cent in Africa, and 28 per cent in Asia. Read more
