Inter-American Meeting of National Authorities and Experts on Energy for Sustainable Development in the Americas.

On March 3, 2008 at the OAS headquarters, located on 17th Street and Constitution Avenue, NW in Washington, D.C., authorities and experts on Energy met to explore Challenges to energy for sustainable development

The objective of the meeting was to deepen the knowledge and exchange of ideas among relevant energy sector stakeholders in the Americas in order to improve the sustainability of the sector. At the meeting, energy experts  presented on the various themes of sustainable energy highlighted by the Declaration of Panama.

This meeting was one of the commitments of the Declaration of Panama:  Energy for Sustainable Development, adopted by the thirty-four OAS member States during the 37th regular session of the General Assembly held in Panama City last year.

This meeting of experts on energy for sustainable development took place one day prior to the opening of the Washington International Renewable Energy Conference (WIREC 2008). The WIREC conference is the third global ministerial-level conference on renewable energy, following events in Beijing in 2005 and Bonn in 2004.
