Inaugural Meeting of Environmental Law Advisory Group of the OAS Department of Sustainable Development

 

On Friday March 16, a recently established Environmental Law Advisory Group for the OAS Department of Sustainable Development (DSD) met to discuss the international environmental law aspects of an ongoing initiative related to Trade & Environment in the Americas.   In particular, the meeting addressed issues such as legal frameworks that improve the sound management of chemicals, promote enforcement and compliance of environmental laws, support Payment for Ecological Services, and strengthen the linkages in the area of trade and environment and for public participation mechanisms.

The Advisory Group was established in order to strengthen the environmental law program of the DSD and obtaining periodic recommendations on environmental law matters related to the Department’s program and projects in areas such as Water Resource Management, Sustainable Energy, Climate Change, Biodiversity and Sustainable Land Management, among others.

The group is formed by ten highly esteemed experts from across the Americas in the environmental law field.
