Specialist lawyers in environmental law of the member countries met in OAS Headquarters to discuss various themes related to the capacities of american countries in environmental management.   March 21st 2007, Washington D.C. Presentation of the Preliminary Inventory of Persistent Toxic Substances in the American Hemisphere                              

Within the project “Strenghtening Capacity Building in Environmental Management” DSD organized a presentation of the advances in the elaboration of a Preliminary Inventory of Persistent Toxic Substances in the American Hemisphere. The meeting was held with the presence of experts of DSD, who formulated suggestions and recommendations to continue with the compilation of information that leads to a robust database in the future.        

   April 23-27, 2007, Concepción, Chile. Technical meeting to coordinate the elaboration of the Database of Persistent Toxic Substances and Heavy        Metals  

The Project “Strenghtening Capacity Building in Environmental Management” is building a Database for the management of Toxic Substances with the information that the National Coordinators for the project send via questionnaires, among other sources. Once finished, this Database will be officially presented. DSD works with a group of experts of Universities of the region in the design of this tool to assess the use and management of PTS.

The results of this meeting were:

  • The design of the structure of the Database

  • Organization of available information in official sources

  • Determination of the type of information to be generated and necessary data

This is a first step in the support to the countries of the Americas to strenghtening the management of chemical substances. In the following months, the official presentation of the Web Site with the Database is planned.
