Summary: |
InBUy project was undertaken in Faculty of
Sciences between 2006-2007 and was very well received within the
Uruguayan community. This project promoted national engagements to
generate national strategies concerning invasive alien species. During
this process, new aims were identified in other institutions and other
specialists provided new data. In particular, forestry activities in
Uruguay and the region, and the implementation of protected areas for
conservation in 2007, are very good data providers. Moreover, new
projects undertaken between 2006-2008 related to aquatic invasive
species are also identified as further data providers. Therefore, the
present proposal aims to enlarge the number of species and records of
biological invasion databases of Uruguay (InBUy), by incorporating new
data and thus increasing to the amount of 100 further species and more
than 1500 records. This new information will be very useful to face the
current productive and conservation challenges in our country and its
divulgation through internet will contribute to the sustainable
development of natural resources of Uruguay and the whole region. |
