Summary |
During 2.005 and
2.006, Guyra Paraguay, with financial and technical support of USGS,
concluded a digitalization of a geo-database of 101 ecosystems
identified for Paraguay.
The mentioned
digitalization was based on adaptation and revision of a geo-database of
South American Ecosystems, produced by Roger Sayre, Jacquie Bow and
Carmen Josse, USGS, Conservation Geospatial and The Nature Conservancy,
respectively. This work, identified 659 ecosystems in South America,
developing a system of names and criteria derived from expert knowledge,
in order to describe ecological systems.
A process of revision
with local experts originally involved in Sayre and others work, of a
subset of the identified ecosystems for Paraguay was concluded. Finally,
as a product of this re-validation process and a new analysis, using
geo-spatial tools developed by Guyra Paraguay, a new geo-database
validated at national level is available. This database can be adapted
and loaded to the standard system of terrestrials ecosystems of IABIN,
using the bioinformatics capabilities of Guyra Paraguay. |
