   Resumen

The Círculo Herpetológico de Panamá (CHP), a NGO dedicated to the study and conservation of the amphibians and reptiles of Panama, has compiled during 25 years of research and field work a large volume of significant and important information on the amphibians and reptiles of this country. The objective of this project is to digitize information and to create a "Thesaurus" in a database format using the reference collection of the CHP, which has 4,900 specimens (representing ~80% of the species recorded in the country), 800 tissue samples for DNA analysis, photographs of amphibians and reptiles, and tape recordings of a large number of anurans. Material form this collection has been utilized for publication of new distribution records of species during the last 20 years, and for the description new species. An additional objective is to create a web page containing information, following the standards established by the Species and Specimens Thematic Network (SSTN), linked to IABIN. This link will become a valuable source of information for researchers interested in the conservation of these species. This proposal constitutes our first approach to the activities being carried out by IABIN.
